there are students having to leave class for panic attacks there are students who have to drop out because of ptsd there are people who can’t get a job because of their depression there are people who can’t focus because of their eating disorder there are people who don’t have support structures because their mental illness isn’t one of the commonly portrayed ones and so nobody knows how to deal with it – there are people with terrible illnesses who survive through them and help others and try to keep it together and do everything in their power to “normalize” themselves and YET the ONLY time we hear !!! about mental illness!!! is when some fucker!!! kills everyone!!! in his class!!! so yeah!! i’m a little annoyed!!! because we are making the face of mental illness into a mass murderer! we are teaching people that mental illness makes you “other” somehow, that you are inhuman! we are teaching people that - even though more violent crimes are committed against people with mental illness, even though four percent (YES ONLY FOUR PERCENT) of mass murderers have a history of mental illness - we are teaching people!!! this is what it means!!!!! to be sick!!!
